Zacks.com reported that shares of TiVo leaped 5.11% June 15, following rumors of a buyout by DirecTV.
DirecTV could use TiVo's intellectual property to gain competitive advantage against cable, telco and other satellite providers.
For TiVo, a deal would guarantee a reliable marketing and distribution partner for its DVR software. DirecTV has agreed to license TiVo's software, but has been slow to roll out the service.
However, Zacks.com also reported that no "concrete information" was available from either TiVo or DirecTV on the rumor.
